Policies and Procedures Manual: Safety Steward
SOLO EVENT SAFETY STEWARD
The primary duty of the SOLO Event Safety Steward shall concern the safety of spectators. This includes course security, which is defined as maintaining control over spectator access to the course. Driver and worker safety are also a concern to the SOLO Event Safety Steward. Complete duties and responsibilities of the SOLO Event Safety Steward are described in the SOLO Safety Steward Guidebook.
The Event Chairman and the SOLO Event Safety Steward shall consult regarding the placement of the crowd control banners and barricades that affords the greatest margin of safety to spectators.
The Event Chairman and the SOLO Event Safety Steward shall consult regarding a course layout that affords the greatest margin of safety to participants, workers, and spectators.
The Chief of Course and the SOLO Event Safety Steward shall consult in the placement of worker stations that affords the greatest margin of safety to the course workers.
The SOLO Event Safety Steward should ensure that all Deputy SOLO Safety Stewards appointed for the event are currently licensed SOLO Safety Stewards. Deputy SOLO Safety Stewards should have a specific time for their assignment listed on the worker assignment sheets and they should have no other duties at that time. The SOLO Event Safety Steward may wish to conduct a meeting of the Deputy SOLO Safety Stewards to discuss any potential safety hazards of the event.
In the case of rain or other potentially hazardous condition that may arise during the operation of a SOLO II event, the Event Chairman and the SOLO Event Safety Steward shall consult on the feasibility of the continuation of the event. The SOLO Event Safety Steward has ultimate responsibility for the safe conduct of the event, therefore it will be the final decision of the SOLO Event Safety Steward as to whether the event can continue under the circumstances.
The SOLO Event Safety Steward shall verify that the event insurance certificate is posted and that a system is in place for ensuring that all persons required to sign the liability waiver have done so.
After an event has been completed, "fun runs" are possible as long as there is a SOLO Event Safety Steward available. The Safety Steward may participate in the fun runs if another Safety Steward (including a Deputy Safety Steward) is available to stand in, or if all other operations on the premises are suspended while the Safety Steward makes his or her fun runs.
